![]() I called my local Benz dealership and spoke with the service technician. I tried that, but the car still felt like it was starting in 3rd gear. Several forum threads mentioned that solutions to the "limp" mode would be to restart the car. When I drove the car, it felt like the car was in 3rd gear, or running on 2 cylinders. I tried driving the car out of the garage, but the engine was now in "Limp" mode. ![]() It worked! As I was trying this sequence, I noticed that the instrument cluster gear selection indicator was not showing any changes as I shifted from gear to gear. I tried selecting the various gears, timing the changes with the "clicking" noise. I couldn't back the car into the garage, I couldn't shut the engine off otherwise I wouldn't be able to start the car again, I couldn't take the key out of the ignition ! Total frustration !Īfter awhile, I noticed that if I timed the gear shifting with the "clicking" noise I could shift the gear to Reverse and then Park. Also the shifter began to make a "clicking" noise every 3-5 seconds. Yesterday, when I was preparing to back the car into the garage, the gear selector would not move from Drive to Reverse. This problem continued whenever I tried to change gears. When I shifted from P to D, I had to stop at N first, then down to D. Last week I noticed that the gear shifter wasn't working as smoothly as before. Without this forum and its members' postings, I wouldn't have been able to repair the car myself! Just wanted to share with everyone a problem that I had on my w163 2000 and the fix to the problem.
